Catmv
The process by which a category can be moved to a new location and/or renamed a permission that can be granted to an editor, allowing them to move/rename categories
CATP (Caffeine Access Transport Protocol)
Common method of moving caffeine across Wide Area Networks such as the Internet. CATP was first used at the Binary Cafe in Cybertown and quickly spread world-wide.
There are reported problems with short-circuits and rust and decaffeinated beverages were not supported until version 1.5.3
ccTLD (Country Code Top Level Domain)
A ccTLD is a TLD designated for use in a specific country. For example, the ccTLD for Pakistan is .pk, Germany is .de, for Japan, .jp and for the United Kingdom, .uk.
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)
A protocol for wireless data and voice communication, CMDA is widely used in cell phone networks, but also in many other data communications systems. CDMA uses a technique called "Spread Spectrum" whereby the data being transmitted is spread across multiple radio frequencies, making more efficient use of available radio spectrum. There are a number of additional protocols built on top of CDMA, such as 1xRTT (also called CMDA2000).
 
Certificate Authority
An issuer of Security Certificates used in SSL connections.
CGI (Common Gateway Interface)
A set of rules that describe how a Web Server communicates with another piece of software on the same machine, and how the other piece of software (the? CGI program?) talks to the web server. Any piece of software can be a CGI program if it handles input and output according to the CGI standard.
cgi-bin
The most common name of a directory on a web server in which CGI programs are stored.
CGI Program
A small program that handles input and output from a web server. Often CGI programs are used for handling forms input or database queries.
Chat
An on-line text-based communication between Internet users.
Child cat
Colloquial: child category. Used comparatively to refer to a category contained directly within another category. For example, Arts/Music/Styles is a child category of Arts/Music.
Cinepac
A codec for computer video.
Classic ODP
Colloquial encompasses all categories outside of Kids and Teens.
